KEVIN SHEPHERD: CARONICLE. 20th October. Apotheca.

Who are you?
I’m Kevin Shepherd a comic who originally hails from Bognor Regis but I left the candy floss and donkeys to purse my dream of becoming a stand up comedian. I moved to London and did a load of open spots (ten minute spots done for no money to small rooms of largely indifferent people) for years. Eventually through repetition I got better, in 2004 I left my day job and haven’t looked back since.

In 2009 I was asked to support if.comeddies nominees, Mickey Flanagan and Ivan Brackenbury on their national tours. This year I helped direct, write and edit the show ‘Ian D Montford – Spirit Comedium’. I’ve also tried my hand at acting, and was recently body double for Ralph Fiennes as Voldermort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

What’s your show about?
It’s the story of my life told via the medium of the cars I’ve owned. I’ve had a somewhat checkered past and have done some things I’m not proud of. In the show you’ll find out about them and some things that I’m very proud of and how I became the comedian I am today. I can honestly say that if you come and see the show you’ll leave knowing more about me than most of my friends, my wife, my kids and my parents.

Is this the first time you’ve played in Manchester?
Nope I’ve been here loads of times. I love performing here. The comedy circuit here is so warm and friendly it’s what the London circuit would be like if there weren’t so many c***s about. Hang on maybe I should be diplomatic. Yes I have performed here before.

How long have you been doing comedy?
Long enough that this question is embarrassing.

What are the 3 funniest words in the English language?
Kevin

Shepherd

Caronicle

Anything else you want to add?
You don’t need to have driven a car to enjoy my show you just need to have lived a life.

Show starts at 9:45PM.
Tickets are £5.

HARRIET DYER - WHAT A PALAVER! 18th October. Apotheca.

Who are you?
I’m a comic who gigs all over the country up to 4 times a week. Last year I was FHM's Stand Up Hero show on ITV4.

What’s your show about?
Have you seen the film The Truman Show? I’m convinced my life is a modified version of it, due to the fact my life seems too fooked up for some of the stuff not to be staged!
I was standing up on a beach once and a random seagull flew into my head and knocked me unconscious. I became an alcoholic at the age of 21, and my dad currently has a male Greek lover!

Is this the first time you’ve played in Manchester?
I’ve gigged in Manchester quite a bit (if truth be told, I’m quite fond of the place.) It is my first time at the Manchester Comedy Festival though so am looking forward to get on it like sonic!

How long have you been doing comedy?
Since 2007.

What are the 3 funniest words in the English language?
Girth, Taxidermist (because it’s nothing to do with taxi’s) and Kumquat.

What’s your best feature?
My nipples! They’re wonderful… Like little badger noses!

Anything else we need to know?
I’ve recently taken up karate… I got into a lot of trouble for chopping my mum in the head.

Show starts at 7PM and is approximately 1 hour long.
Tickets are £5.

THE ONE HANDED SHOW: A HISTORY OF PORNOGRAPHY. 17th October. Apotheca.

Who are you?
I am Nellie White, a comic from Melbourne, Australia. Yes, I did ride here on a kangaroo. Very comfy in its pouch, full of mucus but still good.

What’s your show about?
My show is about the history of pornography, so it’s been a lot of fun to research. I wore my clitoris down to a nub.

Is this the first time you’ve played in Manchester?
It is my first time, I’m very excited to be a part of it and I keep on hearing about Manchester Airport. Did you know a second runway was opened in 2001 and there have been continued terminal improvements? Also despite being a regional airport, the airport currently has the highest rating available, “Category 10” encompassing an elite group of airports which are able to handle “Code F” aircraft including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8? Looking forward to checking that out.

How long have you been doing comedy?
Some years that I will not be getting back. Assuming time is linear.

What are the 3 funniest words in the English language?
Herpes and Banana Salad.

Anything else you want to add?
I don’t want say that my show will change your life but I do want to imply that.

Show starts at 9:45PM
Tickets are £5.

OLIVER MEECH'S COMEDY MAGIC SHOW. 17th October. Apotheca.

Who are you?
Oliver Meech, Comedy Magician and Magic Boffin.

What’s your show about?
It’s a comedy magic and mind-reading show. I nickname it ‘Live Brain Surgery’ as it mixes magic and neuropsychology, so it’s amazing things about your brain illustrated with amazing tricks. There’s strange surgery, bizarre brain facts and freaky tricks. I do things like vanishing memories, paralysing fingers and speed-memorising a deck of cards. It’s a laughing, gasping good time!

Is this the first time you’ve played in Manchester?
Yep, and I can’t wait to pop my Mancunian cherry. I’ve heard it rains as much as London so I’m sure I’ll feel right at home.

How long have you been doing comedy?
I’ve been performing for the bathroom mirror since I was a toddler. I’ve been doing comedy clubs for the last 3 years. Comedy and magic go really well together – there’s the same element of surprise in both jokes and tricks.

What are the 3 funniest words in the English language?
Badger, Monkey, Bonobo: it’s all about the animals.

Anything else you want to add?
Yes, some shameless mentioning of nice quotes about my show:
**** “funny, endearing, impressive showmanship” ThreeWeeks
“real gasps of awe” Broadway Baby

Show starts at 7PM and is approximately 1 hour long.
Tickets are £5.
